Catching up

Wow...we have been busy. I joined the Selma Charity League this year (aka Junior League) and we are in the midst of planning and practicing for Follies (a big production the League puts on and is our main fundraiser). It has been super fun and I have gotten to meet some fun girlfriends. Lee and I are in 2 dances together and then I am in 2 others with groups of girls. I am not a dancer by any means, so this is all pretty funny. Our director/choreographer flew in from Philly last Monday and we have been practicing every night. The show is Feb. 6th and 7th. So that means lots of practices in little time. The practices are at the country club which means lots of drinking and eating popcorn. We have gotten the biggest kick out of watching some of the skits...Lee has been signed up for Spice Girls skit which of course means he will appear in drag! It is hilarious. Wen-Wen and Honey have been coming over to stay with Kylie so that Lee and I can attend the practices. That has been a big help. Anyway, we are having fun and that is why the blog has been neglected. I will try to get some pictures on here from practices.
In other news...we are still battling double ear infections. The super strong antibiotic is not working so when we go back to the Doc on Tuesday, I expect him to set up our appointment with the pediatric ENT in Bham. Besides the ear infections, Kylie is doing great. She is super happy during the day just fussy at night due to her ears. The pressure builds when lying down so nighttime is definitely worse. Hopefully this will be taken care of soon. In other Kylie news...she is starting to CRAWL!!!! She can get up on all fours and rock back and forth. Lee says he has seen her go backwards but I have just witnessed the rocking back and forth. We are still teething, but still no signs of teeth. I gave her a biter biscuit the other night and she loved it!!!! I was so worried that she was going to choke or something but she knew exactly what to do with it.
And before I get to the picture portion of that blog...I must say - THANK GOD DEER SEASON IS OVER IN A COUPLE OF DAYS. This was the last weekend of hunting for Lee and I am so glad. :)

Under the Weather

Poor thing! Kylie has had a really bad cough this week. Since we were scheduled to have her 6 month check-up today I figured we would just try to make it until today to bring her into see the Doctor. Come to find out - she still has not been able to get rid of the double ear infections and the infection/drainage from her ears is what is causing her to cough!! We have had these same ear infections for a month now. So she will being taking a much much stronger anitbiotic starting tonight and if that does not clear it up will be sent to a pediatric ENT in Birmingham. She is eating well and playing well, but not sleeping as good and a little more fussy than usual. I really hope this antibiotic will work. I do not want to visit everyone hospital in the state of Alabama before she is even one year old!!!!!!!!!! haha.
As for the 6 months stats:
Weight: 17 lbs - 70th percentile
Height: 27 in - 83rd percentile
Head circumference: 50th percentile

Other than the ear infections, she got a great report. We were hoping to get off of Nutramigen this month and go to a regular, less expensive formula but we will be unable to do that until she is well.

6 Months! (Sorry this is a long one...)

Well my baby has reached a milestone...Kylie is now 6 months old!!!! I know everyone says time flies when they are little, but honestly I swear we moved at a snail's pace from Day 1 to 4 months but since then she has been growing faster than a blink of an eye. This is my favorite age so far, Kylie interacts with us so much more and is SOOO smiley and fun. I swear it is hard to get a photo of her not smiling, she will smile and giggle anytime you speak to her. It is amazing how much our lives have changed in 6 months. We could not imagine our life without her, but I will admit during the period of extreme colic, ambulance rides, and so on and so on I did not think things would get easier and honestly thought having a child was going to be more than I could handle. I was wrong (thank goodness) and now can not imagine our lives without her and I can not think of anything more rewarding than being a parent. I remember when I was pregnant reading all of these blogs of different people that had just had babies. They were very helpful but none of them (of course) discussed colic or their child's inability to sleep through the night for months or their inability to nurse and so on and so on. Just know that if you are one of those new mom's like me, that those things DO exist and you can get through it. For some reason, lots of parents do not talk about those things and b/c of that fact it can make you feel inadequate as a new parent. My friend, Jamie, told me that she had always heard that colicky babies end up being the sweetest toddlers and children. I have thought about that everyday and am constantly reminded whenever I say Kylie's name and she lights up in smiles and giggles. We are truly blessed and so thankful!

Anyway back to the milestones...Kylie is so close to sitting up. She can support herself with her hands and arms but still loses her balance. I definitely think she will be sitting up on her own very soon. I am learning that it is so easy to let her play in the exersaucer or walker (or one of the other 1 million baby contraptions currently residing in our den), but I have been making an effort to put her on the floor more so she is not so confined and can move around. She will roll all over the place (front to back, back to front) and is starting to scoot a little. She can push up and hold herself up with her arms so I imagine in another 2 months we will be making good use of the baby gates Amanda and Jerry gave us. She is loving baby food and we have done well with that. The only food she has not really liked is sweet peas (can't say I blame her). But everything else she loves. Still no signs of any teeth, but I swear we have been teething for months. We go through at least 3 bibs a day due to the constant drooling and anything and everything goes into her mouth so that she can gnaw on it. Kylie has her 6 months check-up next week and I will post stats then. She did got to the Doc On Dec. 23rd and at that time was 16lbs. She has really gained weight since we have started food and I am loving her little rolls and chunky thighs. Here are some pics:

Sugar Bowl

Last Friday, we had some friends over to cook-out and watch the Bama game (how disappointing). Lee was not happy that Kylie had outgrown all of her Bama outfits so he put a hat on her that Honey and Paw-Paw got her a while back. She looked so cute. She loves hats. It is pretty funny, she wwould sleep in them if we let her. So here are a few pics after Lee put the hat on and some from during the game when she was
"tailgating" in her walker.

And again....

For those who were curious, last night's sleep mission was also a success. YAY!!!!!!!

She Did It!

Kylie slept through the night last night! I am hoping it is not a fluke and that her New Year's resolution was to let us sleep at night. We started back daycare today and I am hoping that will not mess things up tonight. She does not like to nap at daycare and I think that has been affecting her sleeping. Anyway, we are hopeful!
Also, I think her ear infections are better. We go for our 6 month check up next week so we will find out then. If they still have not cleared up then we will be making a trip to Montgomery to see an ENT.

In other news, I had a little accident at Wal-Mart yesterday. Lee was at home with Kylie and I was excited about getting out of the house. While I was shopping on the diaper aisle, a big hanging display sign fell on my face. I was reaching up for the diapers and whamm. It hurt like he$$. Anyway, I could not find ANYONE in the entire store to help me. Go figure. I thought I was fine and the pain would go away soon, it hurts so bad when you get hit in the nose. Well I put my hand on my face and blood was everywhere. I am looking around for someone to help me and NO ONE. Now I know why I am so partial to Target. :). Anyway, so I grab my purse and rush out of the store. I call Lee and he is already getting ready to go to the emergency room. I get home and we examine and clean my face up and discover that the sign just cut my nose pretty good. I am sore today but do not have any visible bruises and my cut is not TOO visible and did not look like it needed stitches. I am laughing as I type this...it was not funny at the time but it is now.

Happy New Years

We had such a fun New Years. The was the first year we have actually made it to midnight in quite some time! Kyle and Mary Grace invited us to come to Livingston and attend the Masker's dance. Mary Grace just joined Masker's this year and it was a blast! All of the members had to dress representative of singers from different decades. MG was one of the ladies from the B-52s. Our friend, Katie, was Tina Turner and was hilarious! Her costume was my favorite. Anyway we had so much fun and alot of Lee's friends from college and their girlfriends also joined so we had a wonderful time. Thanks so much MG and Kyle for a terrific time! And thanks to Honey and Paw-Paw for keeping Kylie for us last night. She had lots of fun!
